Becoming a director
Want to become a Director?
As a director, you will be a volunteer who makes a vital contribution to the success of the college.
Directors have 3 main roles:
- Ensure clarity of vision, ethos and strategic direction
- Hold leaders to account for the educational performance of the organisation and its students and the effective and efficient performance of staff and;
- Overseeing the financial performance of the organisation and making sure its money is well spent
Directors are expected to attend Full Board/committee meetings at least twice a term, attend and contribute to our stimulating annual conference, attend training sessions as required and support college events.
Being a director is a rewarding role, this is what some of our current directors have to say.
As a parent director I get an insight into the educational establishment I send both my children to. I understand better how the college works and can appreciate the efforts the college goes to ensure they are nurtured, educated and supported. Besides that, I get the opportunity to contribute to the maintenance of the continuing high standards the college is achieving. In addition, I am privileged to work with some amazingly talented people.
I joined to participate in an outstanding board! It was a personal appraisal goal to see how things are organised in terms of what papers are brought, how the meetings are managed etc. I’ve learnt a great deal about best practice on a board.
I have also learnt chairing skills.
I also wanted to support young people in Blackpool (especially those attending the college) and find out more about Higher Education.
As a director you are treated with the utmost respect and your contribution is greatly appreciated.
