Job application guidelines

Job application guidelines

The information you provide in your application form is the only information we will use in deciding whether or not you will be invited for an interview, so it is important that you give as much detail as you can. To help, we have put together these guidelines.

  • Research the college beforehand, this will help you think about the work we do and the offer we have. There is a hive of information on our website.
  • After reading the job description and person specification, think about your application and consider to what extent you meet criteria. Where possible you should provide clear examples of a time when you have had to use the necessary skills as outlined in the person specification.
  • Include how you feel you can demonstrate our core values and your reasons for applying.
  • Ensure you complete all sections of the form.
  • Under the ‘Education and qualifications’ section, you are asked to state your qualifications. Please list individual subjects and grades. You should also mention any other qualifications or training relevant to the post you are applying for.
  • The personal statement is an important part of your application and should be used to tell us how you meet the criteria on the person specification which are noted as being assessed through your application form. You should tell us how you meet these criteria and what experience you have that is relevant to the job description. Always remember to specify your personal responsibilities rather than those of your section or department. Remember to explain how your current or previous experience relates to the role you are applying for.
  • Ensure you complete your application form before the closing date and time, we can only consider completed applications and you won’t be able to access your form after the closing time.
  • Spell check and proofread your application, if possible, ask someone else to check it too.
  • Double check that you have included everything you have been asked for.
  • Please complete the Equal opportunities monitoring at the end of the application this will help us shape our recruitment processes.
  • Where possible an email address for your references should be included, where an email is unavailable a full postal address should be provided.

Good luck with your application!
