Post Graduate Certificate in Education

A Post Graduate Certificate in Education (PGCE) course focuses mainly on your teaching skills and not on your subject knowledge. For this reason you are expected to have a good understanding of your chosen subject (s) - usually to degree level - before you start training. The PGCE is usually a one year course at university and includes 18 weeks in a school or 24 weeks for secondary teaching. At the end of the course assuming all the standards are met the candidate is awarded QTS. A large number of universities offer this route on a full and part time basis in many subjects.
